Team SCE FCU fights back against cancer!

Jun 09, 2011 | In The Community

SCE FCU regularly promotes community assistance opportunities to employees, in an effort to encourage staff and their families to volunteer for local organizations and charitable causes. In recent years, employees have become passionate about the fight against cancer by participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life events within the Credit Union’s branch communities.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, bringing together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. Each team vows to keep at least one team member on the track at all times during the 24-hour event, because cancer never sleeps. Relay for Life is an opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back against the disease by raising money for research, treatment programs, and education.

This year, forty SCE FCU employees participating in the Baldwin Park and Duarte Relay for Life events have raised more than $15,000 in donations for the fight against cancer! “Cancer touches everyone in some way,” says Abby Ulm, manager of the Employee Volunteerism program. “We lost an employee to cancer a few years ago, and several of our employees are cancer survivors. Just about every person can say they know someone who has struggled with the disease. Our employees’ commitment to walking the track and raising money for Relay for Life demonstrates exactly the kind of people we have working for the Credit Union – caring, generous, committed men and women – and we applaud their efforts.”

Way to go SCE FCU employees!
