Meet Oscar Avila

Describe the work you do at the Credit Union.

I assist 10 of our team members in the lending department, and I’m proud to be a part of such a great team with amazing chemistry. I’m highly involved in multiple projects for the organization, working continuously to better our systems and enhance our members’ experiences. It’s very rewarding to see how projects and tasks make a positive impact on our members.

What was your first job?

My first job was with the City of Baldwin Park, Parks & Recreation. I still volunteer there to give back to the community and our youth.

How did you come to be an SCE Credit Union team member?

I worked for Bank of the West, now BMO, and would participate in financial literacy events in the local community of Baldwin Park. George Silva (manager of our Irwindale branch) worked at those same events and convinced me to become part of his team. I became a Financial Services Consultant in the summer of 2014, and I’m still here 10 years later!

How do you spend your free time?

I’ve been married for 15 years and am a proud girl dad of two. Both my girls participate in youth sports, and I sometimes volunteer to coach them. We love hopping on long flights and traveling to make new friends. When we travel abroad, we always have places to stay due to the friendships I’ve made from previous visits.

I love to bike. I also enjoy collecting records, trading them, sharing my favorites, and exploring new finds while discussing music with friends and family. A few friends and I visit a flea market on the first Sunday of each month to search for new vinyl to add to our collection.

Do you speak any languages other than English?

I’m a fluent Spanish speaker, and I’m proud to have my girls in Dual Immersion Programs at school.
