In addition to being COO of the Credit Union since 1996, George is the founder and a current Board member for the Center for Financial Empowerment, a 501(c)(3) non-profit institution that offers financial literacy classes to schools, local employee groups and the community in general.

George is also the Chairman of the Board for Members Business Services (MBS), a CUSO owned by a number of leading California credit unions, including the California Credit Union League. MBS focuses on providing business services to owners and clients.

Prior to joining SCE FCU, George spent 10 years with the California Credit Union League as Vice President of the Compliance/Custom Training and Research/Information Departments. George has managed various credit unions, served in a management capacity at a number of for-profit financial institutions, and was a credit union board member.

George is a Certified Credit Union Chief Executive Officer and a Development Educator. He holds a BA degree from California State University Fullerton, as well as a professional designation in Credit Union Management from UCLA.

George was awarded the 2002 California Credit Union League’s prestigious Diversity award. He is a frequent speaker at credit union conferences and seminars – speaking on issues ranging from regulatory compliance, lending strategies and policies, asset/liability management, and credit union philosophy. George regularly facilitates strategic planning seminars for credit unions of all asset categories. Born in Havana, Cuba, he speaks Spanish fluently.

George volunteers in assisting public schools to raise money so underprivileged children can participate in after school activities. He also donates time during the holidays to play the role of Santa Claus and visit underprivileged children in the Baldwin Park School District. George conducts financial literacy classes for teens and Hispanic immigrants in the Los Angeles area. He volunteers at the food program for the City of Los Angeles and works with the Milagro Corazon Foundation in Tijuana, Mexico.

George is married with two children and one granddaughter.
