New platform, navigation and features create a more personal banking experience online
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 24, 2011) – When SCE Federal Credit Union (then Southern California Edison Company Employees FCU) was one of the first credit unions to offer members online banking services in 1997, the credit union began its commitment to being a technologyfocused financial institution. Today, SCE FCU, with $500 million in assets and more than 42,000 members, continues to direct the way by completely revamping their scefcu.org, which provides members and employees with a simple-to-use interface.
“We had two distinct objectives,” says Annette Coronado, SCE FCU Director of Marketing, “design a website that provides members with a personal banking experience, and maintain our commitment to technology. We’re already receiving positive feedback from members about how the site is easy to navigate and members like our new live chat feature that connects them to a customer service representative online.”
Authorized SCE FCU employees are now able to access, modify and update the website via any web browser on a PC, Mac or smartphone. Built using Drupal open source CMS (content management system), multiple administrators control sections of the website, such as online banking, the SCE FCU Foundation, blogging and events – for continuous and timely adjustments.
“The website is as easy to work as a Facebook profile,” says Dawn Miles-Castillo, SCE FCU Multimedia Designer. “We’ve moved from having Dreamweaver (HTML-based software) on a computer to a site that now lives on the provider’s server. In the event of a technology catastrophe, scefcu.org continues to work seamlessly for members and employees.”
New features for the English and Spanish versions of the website include live chat, news feeds with alerts, calculators and a proprietary all-in-one ATM and shared branch locator with driving directions. “We’re already researching additional features we can add to the site down the road, like an all-in-one ATM and shared branch locator for smartphones, new budgeting calculators and an online registration tool for seminars, financial education classes and community volunteer events,” says Miles-Castillo.
SCE FCU provides financial education, investment services, auto and home loans, along with checking, savings and credit card products to its membership. The credit union, headquartered in Irwindale, supports Southern California Edison employees and is also open to all Californians.
SCE Federal Credit Union was founded in 1952 and currently has more than 42,000 members, $500 million in assets, several Southern California branch locations, thousands of shared branch locations across the United States and more than 28,000 surcharge-free ATMs available to members. SCE FCU serves all of Southern California, with membership open to individuals and businesses. SCE FCU is a not-for-profit entity committed to improving the financial well-being of the communities it serves, especially those underserved by mainstream financial institutions. With a strong commitment to volunteerism, employees donate hundreds of hours to local community causes each year. Additionally, the creation of the SCE FCU Foundation provides much-needed financial education to the underserved.
