LAS VEGAS, Nevada (September 17, 2012) – Just in time for the first day of class, SCE Federal Credit Union wrapped up their month-long school supplies drive. The proceeds, which included everything from backpacks to calculators, were presented to Western High School in Las Vegas.
Western High is classified as a Title 1 school due to the high number of homeless and low-income students enrolled. The donated items will help more than 100 teens in need, according to Western High Principal Neddy Alvarez.
“The truck load of supplies that SCE Federal Credit Union donated will go a long way in helping our students succeed in the classroom,” said Alvarez. “We are very fortunate to have the support of such a community-focused local business.”
Throughout August, SCE FCU’s employees and members, as well as the general public, dropped off supplies at local SCE FCU branches. The company matched all employee cash contributions, which included gifts from Las Vegas- and Southern California-based SCE FCU staff.
“Promoting education in our local communities is a priority at SCE FCU,” said Sue Longson, vice president of business development and community relations for SCE Federal Credit Union. “We’re constantly looking for opportunities to serve local efforts, and we’ll continue to support Western High School.”
